The Italian University System and the University Courses catalogue
Since 1999, with Ministry Decree no. 509/1999, amended on October 22, 2004 with Ministry Decree no. 270/2004, the Italian University System has been reformed. Following the European model, outlined by the Bologna process and it is now based on three main cycles of study:
- 1st cycle degree- "Laurea" undergraduate degree programmes, 3 years length, 180 CFU/ECTS credits - equivalent to Bachelor's level degree
- 2nd cycle degree- "Laurea Magistrale" - graduate programmes, 2 years length, 120 CFU/ECTS credits - equivalent to Master's level degree
- 2nd cycle degree - "Laurea Magistrale a ciclo unico", undergraduate programme - 5 years length, 300 CFU/ECTS credits - single-cycle degree combining Bachelor + Master levels degree.
- 3rd cycle degree- "Dottorato di ricerca" and "Diploma di Specializzazione"- post-graduate programmes, 3 years length
Professional Qualifications:
- 2nd cycle degree - "Master Universitario di primo livello"
- 3rd cycle degree - "Master Universitario di secondo livello"

You can also consult the "schede trasparenza" (transparency sheets) of the degree programmes offered, by the academic year "anno accademico". Select the academic year and then choose the "Dipartimento" (Department) of interest, you will be able to display the overall degree programmes offered by the chosen Department just clicking on "invio" or you can select a degree programme in the list available on "corso di studio".
