Short term (Uniform Schengen Visa, Type C, up to 90 days)
If your stay at UniBas lasts less than 90 days you have to request a type C visa (= "short duration") to enter Italy.
Type C visa can either be:
- National visa: valid only for Italy if issued by an Italian Embassy or Consulate. It does not allow you to travel to other Schengen countries;
- Schengen visa: valid for Italy and also for other Schengen countries.
You should also confirm directly with the Embassy or Consulate about the specific documents you need to submit. Upon request the Internationalization Service will provide you with an invitation letter, which must be submitted to the nearest Italian Embassy or Consulate to obtain your visa.
Please note that a visa only allows you to enter Italy. After arrival, you must submit a declaration of presence to the Immigration Office within 8 working days to validate your stay.
The visa only allows you to enter Italy. If your stay exceeds seven days and your entry into Italy was through another Schengen Area country, you must go to the Immigration Office within 8 days of your entry into Italy to make a declaration of presence.
Citizens of a country exempted from any visa requirement can freely travel to Italy for less than 90 days without a short-term visa. Once in Italy, they must report their presence submitting the form 'Declaration of presence' (Dichiarazione di Presenza) at the local police headquarter (Questura), within 8 working days after entering Italy.
